Bootleg Fentanyl Leads To Spike In Overdoses

Credit: DEA Georgia’s Department of Public Health has issued a warning about a cluster of overdoses from counterfeit pills that contain fentanyl, a potent opioid drug. Roughly 100 cases are suspected in the Augusta area, according to Public Health officials. But there also have been cases reported in the Savannah area and northwest Georgia, as well as a few in metro Atlanta. The sellers of the pills may have claimed they were Xanax, a drug used to treat anxiety and panic disorders, or the painkiller Percocet, according to a Monday alert from state epidemiologist Cherie Drenzek to community leaders.

COVID-19 vaccine appointment scheduling paused in some SE Georgia counties Matthew Copeland © Provided by WTLV-TV Jacksonville The Coastal Health District of Georgia is temporarily pausing the scheduling of appointments for the COVID-19 vaccine in their counties.  According to the district, the pause is due to the health department wanting to wait until they have enough of the vaccine to fulfill appointments that have already been made.  Bryan County McIntosh County The district said those who are in the system and awaiting a call-back will still be given an appointment. As of Jan. 25, the health district has enough requests from eligible adults to schedule appointments, including the second dose, through February and into March.
