Outgoing Stockland CEO Mark Steinert says the region has some significant questions it must answer about housing density and options as growth rapidly accelerates. Wrapping up after 8.5 years at the helm, Mr Steinert addressed a packed house at Maroochy RSL last week as part of a Sunshine Coast Business Council event. Mr Steinert told the crowd he expected the work from home trend to amplify pressure on housing affordability and availability in attractive regions like the Sunshine Coast. Currently building a new home in Noosa, Mr Steinert said the Sunshine Coast needed to ask itself whether it had the current balance of housing choices right.
Mr Down said from his experience on the Gold Coast light rail it had several key advantages which made it more viable. He said the much larger population helped boost its catchment as well as the fact the rail was on a major road which had replicas to the east and west which enabled the impact on road traffic to be minimised. Mr Down also said the Gold Coast had been clever not to run the light rail along the beachfront as they knew the value the visual beauty of the beaches held for the region. It comes after the International Olympic Committee named Brisbane as the preferred host of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The announcement gives the Brisbane bid and the Australia Olympic Committee a 12-month window of exclusive negotiation with the committee to secure the hosting rights. Feasibility assessment documents revealed four venues were planned for the region, including Alexandra Headland, for road cycling, marathon and race walk, while kiteboarding was also set to be held at Alexandra Headland beach.
