Aggrieved MenzGold customers kick against approval of Ken Ofori Atta as Finance Minister
By Richard Beyemba Yorda Listen to article
We the undersigned, the Alliance For Social Equity and Public Accountability-ASEPA, the Coalition of Aggrieved Customers of Menzgold-COAM, the Coalition of Aggrieved Customers of GoldCoast Securities, the Coalition of Aggrieved Savings and Loans Customers-CASLOC officially petitions the appointment committee of Parliament relative to the President’s nomination of Mr.Ken Ofori-Atta as Finance Minister-designate.
On the 22nd of January, 2021, the Presidency issued a communiqué informing the general public of the submission of a list of nominees to Parliament through the Speaker to be considered and vetted for the various ministerial portfolios.
The Coalition of Aggrieved Customers of Menzgold (CACM) has petitioned the Appointments Committee of Parliament to reject the minister-designate of Justice and Attorney-General, Mr Godfred Dame.
According to the petition co-signed by CACM Chairman Isaac Nyarko and Secretary Samuel Odartey on 8 February 2021, Mr Dame âis not suitableâ for the position.
The group indicated that their petition against Mr Dameâs appointment is premised, among many others, on the fact that âThe future principal legal adviser to the Government cannot be indifferent; inactive and non-forceful in communicating to the government what public interest looks like if over 2 million Ghanaian nationals (who invested well over 100 million dollars into Menzgold) have had criminal financial acts committed against them by identifiable perpetrators.
