Coal India Limited (CIL) has commenced measures to secure the necessary resources for achieving its target of producing one billion tonnes annually, as per information provided in Parliament. The Coal and Mines Minister, Pralhad Joshi, stated that CIL is anticipated to reach this production milestone by 2025-26.
Coal Production: From April 2020 to October 15, 2023, the maharatna firm has got environment clearance for 101 proposals with an additional capacity of 144.23 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), he explained.

The government on Wednesday informed the Parliament that Coal India has identified 15 new projects with a capacity to produce 160 million tonnes per annum to increase domestic coal production and reduce dependence on imports.
Coal and mines minister Pralhad Joshi told Lok Sabha that the focus of the government is on increasing domestic production of coal and to achieve these targets through the allocation of more coal blocks, pursuing with the state government for assistance in land acquisition and co-ordinated efforts with railways for movement of coal. 15 greenfield projects identified with a capacity of about 160 MTPA (Million Tonnes per Annum) to be operated by mine developer cum operator mode
