Thursday.
The city is expected to unveil the rentable scooters to the community during a virtual ceremony at the Coachella Library at 5:30 p.m., with Mayor Steven Hernandez, the city council, the Coachella Chamber of Commerce and a Bird representative present.
The scooters will be available for use as soon as the ceremony ends. Riders will need to download the Bird app on their mobile devices and attach a payment method to their account. Scooters will be $1 to unlock and 39 cents per minute to ride.
In March, the City Council unanimously approved the electric scooter company to do a soft launch that was scheduled for April 30. However, days ahead of the launch, Coachella s economic development director, Gabriel Martin, told The Desert Sun that the contract had been revised and the scooters would launch at a later date.
