The second week of Spring Football is here as the UCF Knights practiced in the Florida rain at their practice facility on Monday.Â
New defensive coordinator Travis Williams seems to be pleased with the unit’s trajectory upon the second week of preparation.

âItâs been awesome. Being able to get on the field is always good and seeing guys fly around with great energy,â Williams said about the Knights defense. âJust been a blast being able to coach these guys and they come with great energy, great mindset, so thatâs a start. It was an awesome first week, now weâre on to week two.â
Just 17 days after being introduced as the new inside linebackers coach for the Miami Hurricanes, Travis Williams is leaving UM to become the defensive coordinator at the University of Central Florida as announced on Wednesday.
Williams’ hiring at UCF comes two days after the Knights hired former Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn as their head coach. Williams previously served as the linebackers coach under Malzahn at Auburn for the past five years.
In his introductory press conference Thursday, Williams said Miami head coach Manny Diaz told him, “You have to take that, it’s a great opportunity.”
“My family and I are excited to now be a part of the UCF family,” Williams said in a press release on UCF’s website. “I’m blessed to have the opportunity to serve the young men in our program. I can’t wait to work alongside Coach Malzahn again. He is a great man and a great coach.”
UCF hired Gus Malzahn as its new head coach, the team announced Monday. I m thrilled to be the head coach at UCF, and I m truly looking forward to being part of Knight Nation, said Malzahn. It s exciting to be head of a program where the future is extremely bright. I will be hitting the ground running in terms of getting to know our team and everyone else connected with UCF. Our goal is to be ready to win championships.
Malzahn recorded a 68-35 overall record with Auburn over eight seasons. He was named AP Coach of the Year in 2013 after leading the Tigers to a BCS National Championship Game appearance in 2013 and 12-2 mark.

ORLANDO, Fla. (WSFA) - Former Auburn head football coach Gus Malzahn is moving on from the Plains and the Southeastern Conference after being hired for a new head coaching position.
Monday morning, the University of Central Florida tweeted confirmation of the higher with Malzahnâs hire, first with video and photos of him stepping off a jet onto a red carpet, then with a following tweet of Malzahnâs signature âBoomâ phrase and a photo welcoming him to UCF.
