WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (seminoles.com) – During the spring of 2021, Florida State’s RayQuan Evans was working through a life-changing decision. Evans had just earned his bachelor’s degree in Social Science and successfully completed his college education. He had walked across the graduation stage and shook the hand of then Florida State University President, John Thrasher. Only a month before, he had played in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in his career and participated in Senior Day ceremonies with his Seminole teammates. He had walked to center court at the Donald L. Tucker Center and shook the hand of Florida State’s Leonard Hamilton, the winningest basketball coach in school history. In October of 2020, the NCAA had granted fall and winter sport athletes an extra year of eligibility, whether they had competed during their 2020-21 seasons or not. April 9, 2021 Barnes Declares For NBA
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – Florida State’s Scottie Barnes, the ACC Freshman and Sixth Man of the Year in 2021, will enter his name for consideration in the 2021 NBA Draft. He becomes the fourth one-and-done player under Head Coach Leonard Hamilton and his staff in the last six seasons joining Malik Beasley (first round pick of the Denver Nuggets in 2016), Jonathan Isaac (first round Draft Lottery pick of the Orlando Magic in 2017), and Patrick Williams (first round Draft Lottery pick of the Chicago Bulls in 2020).
Barnes is widely expected to be one of the first five players selected in the NBA Draft on July 29, 2021. The NBA Draft Combine is scheduled for June 21-27 while the NBA Draft Lottery will be held on June 22.
March 1, 2021 Florida State Extends Hamilton’s Contract
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) Florida State University Vice President and Director of Athletics David Coburn announced today that Florida State has extended the contract with head basketball coach Leonard Hamilton through the 2024-25 season.
“Coach Hamilton has done so much for this basketball program and this university that it is hard to express in words,” said Coburn. “What he does with his young men, both on and off the court, is truly remarkable. I know both the President and I regard him as a university treasure, and he is just now getting the national recognition he has deserved for so long. He embodies all the qualities that make a great leader, and we are proud and thrilled to have him as our coach as long as he wishes.”
