LAS CRUCES – A New Mexico State men’s basketball assistant coach violated NCAA ethical conduct rules at his previous job, the Division I Committee on Infractions ruled Tuesday.
Corey Barker, whose name surfaced in an FBI college basketball corruption case while he was an assistant at Texas Christian, accepting $6,000 from an aspiring sports agent and then lying to the school about it. He was fired from TCU in March 2019.
The NCAA placed TCU on three years’ probation Tuesday and fined the University $5,000 and 1% of its men’s basketball budget.
New Mexico State coach Chris Jans hired Barker in September 2019. Barker also worked as a Jans assistant at Bowling Green in 2014-15.
