7,200 security personnel to be deployed for AJK polls

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said on Monday that on the request of the Election Commission of Pakistan, around 7,200 personnel of Rangers and Frontier Corps will be deployed in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) to ensure smooth conduct of elections scheduled for July 25.
Addressing a news conference, he said Pakistan Army was on standby to assist in case of any emergency during AJK polls. He expressed the hope that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will form the next government in AJK. He said Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari were making false claims of rigging, as “they are afraid of their defeat”.
