abortions after just six weeks. cnn s diane gallagher has been following the story. this, of course, does not strike down this law for good, but it does temporarily block it. how long? and what happens from here? reporter: so, jim, we don t know for how long at this point. the judge today granting that injunction, which temporarily blocks that new abortion law banning most abortions after six weeks from going into effect. i m told the state supreme court can review it or some other legal action by that state court is taken. now, this is something that to people in south carolina sounds familiar because the state supreme court actually did strike down a very similar six-week abortion ban earlier this year. in fact, that was something that was discussed many times, both the house and the senate while they were arguing and debating this particular legislation. with opponents of the legislation saying it was not different enough from that original bill, that original law to sus
estimating speed about 172 miles per hour at that point. in other words, not particularly fast for an airplane but fast by any other measure. 12 people on that plane suffered minor injuries. the man accused of opening the door is now under arrest. this video shows how he had to be carried into a local police station. an officer said he was, quote, not in a good mental state. joining me now, cnn transportation analyst, mary sciavo. i m trying to figure out, we re trying to figure out, how this person was able to open a plane door like that because i was always under the impression there were fail-safes for this. can you understand it? i i hope i can. i hope i can shed light. well, it s come down to a lot of things in life. laws and loopholes. he took advantage of the law of physics at just the right time and, of course, the federal aviation regulations that are very similar to other countries, including korea.
helicopter go back and forth over deep water several times but as it got closer, i m an aircraft mechanic so i noticed it didn t even have a chance to auto rotate when it came down. whatever he did, just lost it. came down, smashed, helicopter started tipping. everybody, the whole beach, ran to the scene. probably ten guys you know pulling it down so it doesn t collapse over. we re pulling the skid down, two guys were inside pulling the passengers out. it was a very, very quick reaction. remarkable, quick reaction. earlier, i spoke with cnn transportation analyst, mary schiavo. it appears they were losing power in the engine. when a helicopter engine quit, it doesn t necessarily just fall
automatically lower the plane s nose if it nears a stall is suspected of forcing both flights into the ground. lots of evidence from the cockpit in both crashes of pilots fighting that system. dennis muilenburg, the ceo, admitted this morning that, well, they made some mistakes. we ve made mistakes. and we got some things wrong. we re improving and we re learning and we re continuing to learn. hundreds of people did die in those crashes. let s bring in now former inspector general for the u.s. department of transportation and cnn transportation analyst, mary skoo schiavo. thanks very much, mary. following this story has been fascinating and a little disturbing, because what s become clear, beyond boeing s mistakes, is the faa s involvement here, really, or just the way the system was set up, where the airline cedes so much control to the airline. there s been some reporting that they wrote the language of the law ceding control to the
