some protesters to be armed. new security fencing is set to go back up. this is a dangerous and pivotal point in american history. trump not only insisted he won in 2020, his lies made millions of americans doubt the u.s. election system. he relentlessly pressured local election officials and the department of justice to help reverse the results of the election, and when that did not work, his supporters turned to changing voting laws across the country. to talk about how dangerous this is, again, for the foundation of the democracy, you have to look at the entire scope of actions here by the former president, his inner circle and also republican politicians who are believers in these lies. here s cnn senior investigative correspondent, drew griffin. cnn spoke to a dozen state and county officials involved in elections for this special report. many of them republicans themselves.
welcome back. we re now 17 days away until the midterm elections. as if there weren t enough at stake already, concern over voter i.d. laws is growing. democrats are complaining that for the most part, change is enacted by several states designed to hurt their turnout. republicans disagree. here s cnn senior investigative correspondent drew griffin reporting from north dakota on laws that are making it harder for voters to cast their ballots. reporter: on the standing rock reservation in north dakota, terry yellowfat for years voted with an i.d. with no address. in fact, he didn t know his street address. he knew his post office box. that was enough, until now. i have no idea why they want a physical address. reporter: a north dakota law passed last year and upheld by the supreme court last week
suspected of shooting one of his passengers to death. while authorities say there is probable cause the 29-year-old fired at least ten shots at the passenger who police found laying on the floor of hand congress s car. uber says it is deeply troubled by the events. the company s policy prohibits both passengers and drivers from carrying firearms. and this latest incident is fueling concerns about whether uber is properly vetting its drive drivers. now cnn uncovers records revealing thousands of criminals cleared to be uber drivers. here s cnn senior investigative correspondent drew griffin. reporter: when he heard about the drivers, he demanded a list. we were shocked. reporter: the list included 12 uber drivers convicted of felonies and others with duis or
