a cnn political commentator joining us right now. jonah, what s your take on all of this? you ever see the movie tin cup where at the end he swings 19 times to win the tournament when he can t win it after the second swing. it feels a little like that. i do think there s a little bit of an inflationary import of this. kevin mccarthy is not zelenskyy or churchill or anybody. part of what makes this such a spectacle is it s about the smallness of kevin mccarthy, and the people who oppose him one of the things as a conservative that frustrates me with coverage on all the networks is everyone keeps referring to the freedom caucus who support him as conservatives. they re nihilists. most of these guys are performative people. matt gaetz is an illiterate.
summer. the department of homeland security also saying in a statement that migrants should not be listening to smugglers who may try to exploit the situation. we have heard there has been some exploiting going on for sure. thank you so much. outfront now scott jennings, former senior adviser to senate minority leader mitch mcconnell, and a cnn political commentator. and a former defense attorney and former democratic mayor of baltimore. thank you both for being here. good evening. scott, i ll start with you. what s the big takeaway that you see coming out of this from the supreme court s decision? yeah, a few things. and thanks for having me on tonight. i think, number one, the supreme court, at least temporarily, saved joe biden from himself. his administration was in court arguing to end this. they even admitted in court the solicitor general admitted that lifting title 42 will lead to disruption and a temporary increase on unlawful border crossings. and we already have a
cofounder and ceo of all in together, and cnn political commentator, eke up. you know, it s such a time that we re in right now, i would love to hear from all of you in the sense of, we are in a space, s.e. cupp, where there is so much progress and yet still a lot of work to be done. it s a conflicting feeling. how do you feel? well, you know, look, i ve been in the space for a long time, i m a gun owner, and i was a gun rights activist at a time. in an nra member before i quit. and a lot changed since sandy hook, sandy hook is one of the reasons i left. the progress has been for law abiding gun owners, responsible gun owners, who have decided in many cases to part with the nra, and say, they are too extreme, and we want to come out and be part of a solution instead of just defending, you know, the second amendment as we did. i saw progress earlier this year, when good democrats, good republicans got together and brought some legislation to the table.
what kind of strategy is that? now it s her strategy as well. she spoke today with cnn s jake tapper and asked her about her political journey. green party activist. two democrat. two moderate to conservative to independent. are you getting more conservative or are you in search of a home? how do you see it? my values have never changed. i have always been the person that i am today. and, frankly, i am grateful to my parents and the life i have had that led me to hear. with all of the experiences, all the opportunities i have had to learn. one of the things i tell folks at home is that i really pride myself on my willingness to learn and grow and i know in this town people don t i can loo it if you ever grow or change. so call it grow or change or something else. perspective from david axlerod, cnn political commentator,
