Dhami said the labourers, who were trapped in the Silkyara tunnel for almost 17 days after a portion of the structure collapsed due to a landslide on November 12, will be kept under medical observation, before being sent home. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his constant support and motivation during the rescue operation.
The ambulances waiting at the site took them to a community health centre where a special 41-bed ward was set up for them. As the youngest of the workers, who was the first to be evacuated, emerged out of the tunnel, he was greeted with hugs and cheers as a sense of relief and hope spread.
