State guidance aimed at getting more students back into school is making life harder for the Clymer Central School District.
On April 10, state officials revised the guidance on social distancing for schools. The revised state guidelines allow for at least 3 feet of distance between students in elementary, middle and high school classrooms in counties with a low or moderate risk of transmission. In counties where infection rates are high, middle and high schools should still aim for 6 feet of distancing unless they can maintain “cohorting,” where groups of students remain together through the day.
At the same time, the state changed its guidance on mask wearing in school. For Clymer Central School students, that means now wearing masks all day instead of just when they are moving around the building even though the district has been open five days a week with more than 90% of its students attending with the more relaxed mask guidelines. The Clymer Central School District recently announced its students of the second quarter.
The K-3 Student of the Second Quarter is second grader, Faith VanGiesen. She is the daughter of Jessica VanGiesen. Her favorite school activities are art and singing in music class. After school, she likes to play with her cousins outside. Some of her hobbies include playing soccer, reading, art and gardening. When Faith grows up, she would like to become a teacher. Zavon is her hero because, as Faith states, “He is nice. He is funny. He helps me with my homework and plays with me.” Faith was nominated and selected because she has has been such a great team player in class! She has been working hard to display her happiness in class and throughout the hallway! She can always make us laugh and works hard on her school work every day. Faith shows great Pirate Pride!.

CLYMER Clymer Central School District residents overwhelmingly approved a capital construction project by a vote of 180 to 26 this week.
The $4.5 million project will address long-standing issues in the areas of deferred maintenance, asset preservation, safety and security and energy efficiency. The project includes roof restoration, foundation repairs to a retaining wall, restoration of the septic system, fire alarm and phone system upgrades, reconstruction of the front steps, lighting upgrades and replacement of the controls system.
