after 62 years on the sideline, 46 as head coach, joe paterno was fired from penn state. he and the university president were let go last night. by the school s board of directors. it comes in the wake of a sex abuse scandal that s rocked the campus and shocked the nation. overnight thousands of students stunned by the news gathered on the campus. some were violent. the board of director said the decision to fire paterno was made in the best interest of the school. paterno says he doesn t agree with the board s decision but he has to accept this. susan mcginnis with more on this. good morning to you. reporter: the board of trustees at penn state promised fast action and they delivered. paterno is out. the university president is out. now a federal investigation begins. police in riot gear moved in after thousands of outraged penn state students took to the streets. they packed downtown state college wednesday night to show their support for ousted coaching legend joe patern
