NHS staff on front line of pandemic plead with public to stick to the rules

Exhausted NHS staff at a Scottish hospital have urged the public to stick with coronavirus measures as they struggle with the pandemic’s winter spike. The PA news agency was given access to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley, where departments are colour-coded to warn of the Covid-19 risk. Nurses and doctors wear masks in green areas and adorn additional PPE – a face shield, apron and gloves – when working in red wards with infectious patients. Staff go about their tasks with good humour, chatter and an easiness that belies the dangerous circumstances of their workplace, where catching coronavirus is an ever present risk.

Inverclyde Royal Hospital is set for a £1 85m theatre revamp

INVERCLYDE Royal is set for a £1.85m theatre revamp to create a centre of excellence in orthopaedics. NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde say a design team has been appointed to carry out a refit, with the upgrading of two wards to support the new activity. This follows a decision in 2019 to send the most seriously ill trauma patients to new units set up at Paisley s RAH and the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, with the removal of emergency orthopaedics at Inverclyde. The IRH will instead be used to carry out elective orthopaedic surgery, with the A&E remaining open for all other cases.
