Talk About Clyde: Museum celebrates women s right to vote
Jeanette Ricker
Did 1970 feminists really burn their bras in protest of the Miss America Pageant? They didn’t. In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment (Women s Right to Vote) in 2020, Dr. Susan Trollinger, professor of English at the University of Dayton, will present a program on this historic landmark.
Her story of the women’s suffrage movement, “Rebels in Corsets,” is at 7 p.m. June 8, in the Clyde Museum, 124 W. Buckeye St. She will discuss myths and facts and how the rhetoric of the movement changed over time and became more radical; how Ohio women fought for the cause; the arguments and appeals that women made and about the ways in which women used their bodies and put them on the line for the vote.
