The cost of staging an election revealed as Denbighshire council looks to fill void left by chief executive
The departure of Judith Greenhalgh, former chief executive of Denbighshire council, also left a vacancy for a returning officer THE cost of staging an election has been revealed as a council installed a new returning officer after its chief executive left suddenly. With a little more than three weeks until Senedd and Police and Crime Commissioner elections, Denbighshire council needed to fill the void left after former chief executive Judith Greenhalgh officially left her role last week. At today’s full council meeting, the authority’s legal officer Gary Williams asked members to approve corporate director for communities Nicola Stubbins as the new returning officer and electoral registration officer.
Many businesses in the area have been hit hard. Cllr Gareth Davies, Vale of Clwyd Senedd candidate who is hosting the meeting alongside leader of the Welsh Conservatives Andrew RT Davies, is keen to understand concerns and what support is needed. Mr Davies said: “The Covid-19 pandemic has shone a light on many issues, and it’s clear from talking to local businesses in our area that they ve received little or no financial support from the Welsh Government to help deal with the impact of restrictions and lockdowns on their businesses. “I’ve organised a business roundtable with Mr Davies. We want to hear from businesses here in the Vale of Clwyd about the challenges they’re facing and support they need to help as we recover from the pandemic.”
