Beach cleanup slated in Kaanapali

KAANAPALI The Rotary Club of Lahaina and The Whaler on Kaanapali Beach will hold their Quarterly Beach Cleanup on Saturday, May 1. The group will meet beachside of The Whaler at 2481 Kaanapali Parkway and clean the beach from 8 to 9 a.m. Bring sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, appropriate footwear, water, a friend and your love for the community. Trash bags, gloves and hand sanitizer will be provided. Students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. See Rhonda Park to sign in for student community service verification. All volunteers must follow COVID-19 safety guidelines.
Rotary Clubs’ tree planting projects conclude with amazing results

Volunteers united to plant 1,000 fruit and sandalwood trees on Maui between November 2020 and February 2021. The final planting (above) was held on Feb. 19 at Ka Hale A Ke Ola homeless resource center in Lahaina.
LAHAINA Nine Rotary Clubs on Maui joined forces to plant 1,000 fruit trees and sandalwood trees between November 2020 and February 2021. The La’au Ha’awi (Gifting Tree) Maui project, in collaboration with Rotary Clubs, Maui ‘Ohana Gardens and Uncle George Kahumoku Jr., started on Nov. 29, 2020 with the planting of 20 fruit trees at Ka Hale A Ke Ola homeless resource shelter in Wailuku.

KAANAPALI The Whaler on Kaanapali Beach and Rotary Club of Lahaina will hold their quarterly beach cleanup on Saturday, Feb. 6, from 8 to 9 a.m. The group will meet on the beach side of The Whaler at 2481 Kaanapali Parkway. Bring sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, appropriate footwear, water and a friend. A parent must accompany students for supervision. Trash bags, gloves and the sign in sheet for student community service verification will be provided (check in with Rhonda Park). All volunteers will follow COVID-19 safety guidelines. Cleanup organizers ask everyone to come only if you feel well (stay home if you feel sick), work in safe household bubbles, social distance if not from the same household and wear masks. Hand sanitizer will be available.
Rotary Club president earns Paul Harris recognition

LAHAINA At a recent meeting, Rotary Club of Lahaina Rotary Foundation Committee Chair Joseph D. Pluta outlined the history of the foundation, including how Paul Harris recognition began. The honor acknowledges individuals who contribute (or who have contributions made in their name) of $1,000 to The Rotary Foundation. The Rotary Club of Lahaina became a “100 percent Paul Harris Club” in 2012, when every member achieved Paul Harris status.
