(KNSI) – Investigators are trying to determine what started a fire that left the former Children’s Home in St. Cloud substantially damaged.
St. Cloud Fire Marshal Mike Post says they’ve been able to rule out lightning but nothing else.
Post said the building was undergoing some renovation. He says it’s too early to tell what caused the blaze.
The fire mainly damaged the east side of the building.
The building is in the 1700 block of 7th Avenue South. The fire was reported just before 2:45 Wednesday morning.
The building was once used by District 742 for the Riverwoods program and by the Diocese of St. Cloud for the St. Cloud Children’s Home.

ST. CLOUD (WJON) – Fire crews were called to a fire at the St. Cloud Children’s Home early Wednesday.
Battalion Chief Steve Richardson says they were able to keep the fire contained to the building where the fire is believed to have started. Firefighters were on the scene for some time working to make sure there were no hot spots. It’s not believed there were any injuries.
The cause of the fire is not known yet.
Catholic Charities has been a longtime tenant of the St. Cloud Children’s Home owned by the Diocese of St. Cloud. However, the Diocese sold the property in the fall of 2020.

Battalion Chief Steve Richardson says they were called to 1726 7th Avenue South just after 2:30 a.m.
They were able to keep the fire contained to the one building of origin and it did not spread to the other buildings. Right now the fire is under control and they are just working to put out some hot spots.
Mutual aid help came from Waite Park, St. Augusta, and Sauk Rapids fire departments.
The cause of the fire is not known yet, there is no damage estimate yet, it is believed there were no injuries.
