neighborhoods in oklahoma and kansas in ruins today after tornadoes reportedly ripped through that region. and another astonishing twist at the double murder trial of alec murdaugh, the jury is going on a field trip just days before they re expected to start deliberations. our nbc news reporters are following all of the latest developments for us. we want to start with catie beck outside the courthouse in waltersboro, south carolina, as she has been throughout. first of all, some graphic testimony today, but also that block buster decision by the judge. they re going to take the jury to the scene of the crime. reporter: yeah, chris, that was a bit of a surprise. this jay way more often than not sides with the prosecution, and today he granted that defense motion to take the entire jury to moselle, to this hunting property, to the crime scene to get a spatial understanding of exactly how these murders happened. at least that s what the defense said they were hoping. separa
automatically disenfranchise voters, because county election officials can get overwhelmed and in gwinett county, closer to atlanta, there s going to be more attention and more focus to make sure that people are able to vote. so there are concerns there but they re a little different. in the smaller counties, i would imagine, and jane would know more about this, there may not be eyes on all of these election officials, so that is part of the doj s mandate, i believe. what does fair fight do with this information? do they report it or is there follow up that s going to happen. fair fight pac is suing over a mass challenge that happened in 2021, sort of the earliest of these mass challenges. it was more than 300,000 voters, right before those critical runoffs and they re trying to see if they can get them thrown out as discriminatory. while this day is far from
race. and just a hush went over the crowd. and really, not much reaction at all. so, there is no sense here at least that this is going to go beyond this evening. perhaps it will in the mind of some supporters who simply cannot accept election results. but herschel walker, at least for his part, i am told will concede here shortly in atlanta, jake. all right, jeff zeleny, thank you so much. so, if that is in fact what happens, and i want to predicate that with an if, because herschel walker has done nothing but been unpredictable, if he does concede, then he will be just the latest in a string of election denying candidate, who support donald trump s election lies, who themselves have run, got the nominations because of donald trump, and then lost and then have conceded. there are a couple of exceptions in arizona, kari lake and mark finchem are both out there doing their unhinged thing. but most of them, mostly elections and hires that trump
candidate he was. but for now, at least, tonight the final race of this election cycle is over. and one more handpicked candidate by former president donald trump has been defeated. so, certainly that will be one of the ongoing lessons of this campaign. even talking to some republican supporters, here they believe that this was a very winnable race. look at this very close margin here they believe this was a race the relevance could have and should have. alonso, look for many. lessons and there are combinations and finger-pointing in the hours to come. but for now, at least, tonight we are expecting herschel walker to take the stage here. of course, he rose to prominence in georgia because of his football fame. and he will deliver perhaps his final speech of his political life here at the college football hall of fame in atlanta, anderson. jeff zeleny, thank, you will check back in with you. herschel walker and also raphael warnock, likely speaking tonight.
