four systems that we have been watching. it s extremely active. in fact one moved to western australia, one to the north, this is nathan. we have what most likely a typhoon heading toward the philippines. you can see the strongest and largest. hurricanes and cyclones are all the same. notice the colors of purple. what we find are the winds are the strongest. keep in mind in the southern hemisphere they circulate clock wise. much different. if you think of the damage of hurricane sandy. if you think of katrina or eye says even andrew in florida, this is more powerful. so port vila the capital 50,000 live there. 65,000 in the island but you get down in the southern islands as well. that s where another 33,000. so the hardest hit area where the eye went through affecting 100,000 people. there s a quarter million that live in this island chain. that s what we re watching. we had 26 foot storm surge and most of the locations very vulnerable on the coastline. as you saw talking with bill the
for new orleans surrounded by water during that event and possibly this event is pushing all of the water into the lakes and pushing it it to the city. they have done a lot of work with a lot of new gate complexes that keep the water away from the center of the city. shepard: lake pontchartrain is here and the water came to the back side of the city, from the east side, and pushed in. if this storm came in, say, west of new orleans, you would get a more traditional counter check wise storm surge and in the bayous where you had all the verge face and the growth, all of this march land and barrier island, over the last 50 years from stuff we have done and stuff that mother nature has done, that is largely gone and you have not had an event where the water pushed in here with a storm to the west with the counter clock wise surge just push right into the city.

we ve heard from the australian authorities that they have diverted some ships to get there as soon as they can. i want to talk about this search area. we have all kinds of markings on this map because of the way the search has changed again and again. but everything began to focus on the southern part of this satellite arc of the probability of where the aircraft could be. it turned to perth australia which is where these objects were found. now we re kind of jumping a couple steps ahead here. but if in fact these are pieces of wreckage from this aircraft, one of the first things they re going to have to do is trace this back to the point of or gin. not an easy thing to do. but there is a current here that runs counter clock wise. so they may have to trace it back in this direction to figure out where in fact the plane would have made contact, again, assuming this is actual wreckage. you can imagine for the families
