Two councillors have moved to the Action for Powys group TWO county councillors who represent wards in Newtown have confirmed that they have joined the Action for Powys group. Non-affiliated councillor Joy Jones, and former Conservative Les Skilton confirmed the move, which swells the group s numbers in the council chamber to six. Both cited the recently-proposed 3.9 per cent council tax increase in their reasoning for joining the party. A non-aligned councillor for nearly two and a half years Cllr Jones (Newtown East) had left the Independent group in October 2018. Following the resignation of Neil Morrison in September 2019, Cllr Skilton was elected for the Conservative Party in Newtown South in November 2019.
