DERELICT: The former St Peter s school site at Gainford
TEESDALE’S MP is being asked to step in to solve the long-running saga of a Teesdale eyesore.
Gainford Parish Council is requesting that Dehenna Davison puts pressure on Durham County Council to finally find a solution to the problem of St Peter’s.
It comes after a county planning committee last month rejected plans by Kebbell Homes to build houses on its part of the St Peter’s School site because the scheme did not include the redevelopment of the main school building.
The building and the remainder of the site belongs to Ruttle Plant.

SNOWBOUND: Gainford allotments
RENT for land used as village allotments has not been paid for seven years – as the owner had not submitted an invoice.
A demand totalling £9,000 has now been submitted to Gainford Parish Council by Ruttle Plant Hire, the owners of land used as allotments in the village.
Martin Clark, clerk, told members at their February meeting, the rent for the land was £1,500 per year, but no payment had been made since 2014. He added: “They [Ruttle Plant Hire] were told we wouldn’t pay them without an invoice and that is now in. They have allowed us £750 discount.”

NO RISE: There will be no increase in the council tax precept for Gainford Parish Council
SPENDING on floral displays is to be pegged back to ensure residents in a dale village are not asked for any extra tax to pay for their parish council.
Gainford Parish Council met last week to discuss its budget and set its precept – the amount villagers are charged via their council tax to fund the group’s activities – for 2021-22.
Parish council chairwoman Cllr Lisa Johnstone said given the present difficulties facing residents as a result of the Covid-19 crisis, now was not the time to increase the precept.
