Concern expressed over major Limerick housing development Reporter: ); LIMERICK councillors have raised concerns over a planned housing development for the Annacotty area. Regal Park Developments has applied for a second time for permission to build 137 homes off Walkers Lane, with the first attempt vetoed due to the lack of a natura impact statement. Now, with the development having more than 100 units planned, it is once again going straight to An Bord Pleanala. But at this week’s metropolitan district meeting, members were invited to have their say on the project, which would see a mix of 61 apartments, 51 duplex apartments and 25 homes on lands bordered by the Dublin Road and the Castletroy College Road.

Residents up in arms over not being informed of water outages in Limerick village Reporter:   ); RESIDENTS in Castleconnell are up in arms said a local councillor over two water outages in two days. On Wednesday it was to facilitate the repair of a fire hydrant. Today it was for Irish Water to repair a burst main. On both occasions, Castlerock and surrounding estates were affected.  Cllr Sean Hartigan said people are up in arms because they weren t informed.  I am going to make contact with Irish Water to highlight the issue of people not being aware water is being tuned off. It might cause problems with washing machines, said Cllr Hartigan.

They voiced their concern as gardaí made five arrests following a large party in College Court, near the university, on Tuesday night. Three men in the Carysfort Avenue were arrested, two in their 20s under Public Order Legislation, and one man under the Misuse of Drugs Legislation.  Fifty fixed charge penalty notices were issued for breaches of the Health Act.

Councillors passed two motions urging more clarity, particularly on the Coonagh to Knockalisheen element of the road, which would see a new link built from the Moyross estate. Northside councillor Olivia O’Sullivan urged the local authority write to Transport Minister and Green Party leader Eamon Ryan requesting he sign off approval on the scheme, while Cllr Sharon Benson also urged a decision on Coonagh to Knockalisheen.
