Signage boost for Farnsworth and Kearsley after 'years of Boltonisation'

SIGNS welcoming visitors to Farnworth and Kearsley are a boost following years of Boltonisation , according to a local councillor. New signage can be seen entering the two towns for the first time since 1974, when they were incorporated into Bolton borough. Cllr Paul Sanders, a Farnworth and Kearsley First representative, said: For many years, people from Farnworth and Kearsley have questioned why both towns have never had official welcome signage. We have had one or two simple name signs – but for decades there s been nothing official, much like countless other towns benefit from. Our towns symbols have been hidden away since the time Kearsley and Farnworth were swallowed up into Bolton borough in 1974.

BOLTON: Smaller parties set out budget voting reasons

SMALLER parties on Bolton Council have explained their voting decisions which led to the passing of a budget containing £35m of cuts and more than 200 jobs losses for council staff. At last week’s budget meeting, the minority Conservative controlled council voted 28 to 22 to pass the budget. All Conservative members voted in favour, with council leader Cllr David Greenhalgh acknowledging the ‘horrific’ decisions that the authority had to make, with previous financial pressures and the Covid pandemic creating a ‘perfect storm’, The entire Labour group voted against, with their leader Cllr Nick Peel branding the budget ‘immoral’ and saying they ‘would play no part’ in its passing.

Off-road bike rider rips up patch of land on Piggott Street, Farnworth

He said: These actions are disgraceful and totally inexcusable. The biker knew he was damaging and gouging out the greens and spreading turf all over the pavements and road – nothing more than a pathetic personal kick at others expense. The worse damage is sadly to Silcom Ltd s lawns, which are kept pristine by the landowner. The vandalism is obvious in the street scene. Silcom Ltd managing director Jim Hill noticed the damage on Monday morning. Mr Hill added: When I came into work I noticed it. We will have to fix it.
