Residents frustrated by lack of water supply

A Do Not Consume notice impacting on 213 customers in Barndarrig has now been in place for a month, causing considerable hardship for those affected. The notice was issued on February 9 after elevated levels of nitrate were found in the water supply. The water is not safe for consumption or the preparation of foods, but is safe for hygiene and use in washing machines and dishwashers. Local resident Colm Smyth said, There just seems to be a lack of information being provided by Irish Water. The notice was issued on February 9 and Irish Water didn t update their website until March 3. I presume they are testing the water regularly every day so it would be nice to receive some form of updates.

West Wicklow pool listed as priority in county capital plan

A swimming pool for west Wicklow has been listed as a priority on Wicklow County Council s Capital Plan and €50,000 will go toward a feasibility study for the project. The Capital Plan includes a list of large-scale infrastructural projects to be prioritised for the next three years, if and when funding is made available. The Community Pool for West Wicklow campaign group started in 2018 and stressed that the Baltinglass Municipal District was the only district in the county without a community pool. Chairperson Deirdre McCormack was delighted with Wicklow County Council s announcement on Friday (26th). This is great news, she said.

Street furniture and new trees on the cards for Newtown

Wicklow Municipal District has a number of works planned for Newtownmountkennedy over the coming months. District Engineer Kevin Scanlon provided an update at last Monday s Wicklow Municipal District meeting on outstanding works in Newtownmountkennedy. Ciara Martin Perks of Newtownmountkennedy District Forum also attended the Zoom meeting. Nine out of 13 works have already taken place and the €150,000 budget was supplemented with €15,000 from both IPB and Discretionary funds. The outstanding works include street furniture, repairs to footpaths and the placing of a defibrillator in a phone box which is no longer in use. The planting of trees and the replacement of public lighting heads throughout Main Street will also take place.
