Lewisham nursery seeking new home due to council development

A Lewisham nursery will soon be forced to look for a new home due as the council plans to develop housing on its site. Lammas Green Nursery, on Lonbridge Way, received notice in May 2020 of the council’s intention to end a five-year lease for a container out of which it operates, providing care 49 weeks a year. Parents who have recently become aware of the situation have expressed their dismay, with the nursery facing eviction in April. Gemma Welsh, whose 3-year-old son attends, said: “My son is very much speech delayed and struggles with communicating with people. “Since being at Lammas Green he really has improved on his social skills and built an amazing bond with his peers.

They were told that not only does the developer have plans to build housing on Plot 21, Lewisham Council is asking Hutchison to do it. On top of this, when the webinar, held by Hutchison’s community engagement consultant Forty Shillings, was first published online, it was edited to leave out parts of what was said in relation to the council lobbying for housing.

Call for longer consultation on Catford town centre plans
