Plea for donations as demand for Mid Cheshire Foodbank doubles

A PLEA for donations is being made as foodbanks feed more people than ever before due to the pandemic. Mid Cheshire Foodbank is helping twice as many families compared to this time last year as demand soars. People from all backgrounds are struggling to survive. Winsford Town Cllr Nathan Pardoe, and member of Cheshire West and Chester Council who is a foodbank volunteer and trustee, says that most people seeking help have jobs. Most people are working but simply don t have enough money because of the cost of living, said Cllr Pardoe. We have professional people and a cross section of society seeking help.

Demand for Mid Cheshire Foodbank more than doubled

Mid Cheshire Foodbank demand likely to increase next year

Nathan Pardoe, a Winsford Town Councillor and volunteer at Mid Cheshire Foodbank, was speaking to The Guardian about how the Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in more people needing help than ever before, with further uncertainty likely in the months that lie ahead. However, Cllr Pardoe also said one thing that has really shone through in 2020 was a great sense of community spirit and support, which is essential for its future. He said: Community support has always been great at the foodbank, but this year has been exceptional. We ve had such great donations from both organisations and individuals. There s one person who has been donating to us for a while and they won £100 or so on the Lottery and spent it all on foodbank donations.

Treasured Winsford landmark Brunner Guildhall lit up for Christmas

Winsford Town Council has illuminated the Brunner Guildhall to celebrate the town s heritage. Deputy Town Mayor Cllr Nathan Pardoe said: This is a sort of Christmas present to the town and people of Winsford to say thank you for everything they have done throughout this very difficult year. We were aware that the building remains in darkness for most of the time and cannot be seen clearly even from the High Street. We wanted to make sure everyone can see it and to raise a little festive cheer. The Town Council has received a grant of £47,500 from the Architectural Heritage Fund earlier this year to appoint professionals.
