METROPOLITAN district councillors want to see plans to introduce facilities for outdoor dining facilities fast-tracked under special legislation.
The local authority has given a list of locations in which it plans to introduce so-called build-outs, which are semi-permanent outdoor tables and chairs beside restaurants and cafes.
And to accommodate this, it will also introduce temporary road closures.
However, Green Party councillor Sasa Novak warned that these reforms – designed to help retailers battle back after lockdown – could be slowed due to the need for them to go through lengthy planning procedures.

LIMERICK Council is currently seeking consultancy services to carry out a feasibility study on a new proposed greenway linking the city’s riverside and Meelick Creek.
The information came to light after a motion from Green Party councillor urging the same was passed unanimously by Green Party councillor Sasa Novak at this month’s metropolitan district meeting.
She feels the greenway along the existing riverbank is important for the city’s northside.
“The plans for the development of that route have been proposed as far back as the Shannon Region Trails Programme, 2007-2010 and Coonagh Recreational Framework Plan 2009, Caherdavin LAP 2005-2011, and more recently in the latest development plan and the Limerick Shannon Metropolitan Area Travel Strategy,” Cllr Novak pointed out.

THERE were heated exchanges at this month’s metropolitan council meeting, as the city’s two Green Party members faced criticism over the Northern Distributor Road.
Councillors passed two motions urging more clarity, particularly on the Coonagh to Knockalisheen element of the road, which would see a new link built from the Moyross estate.
Northside councillor Olivia O’Sullivan urged the local authority write to Transport Minister and Green Party leader Eamon Ryan requesting he sign off approval on the scheme, while Cllr Sharon Benson also urged a decision on Coonagh to Knockalisheen.
