Ambitious efforts to buy up swathes of a town and make improvements to others across Teesside have been unveiled.
Details of the plan remained under wraps at Stockton Council’s latest cabinet meeting. But leaders agreed back £2.25m of “highway junction improvements” to open the door for the new 300 job project in the borough. Cash from the Tees Valley Combined Authority and its £50m “indigenous growth fund” will prop up the improvements. Council papers show the aim is to use the fund to sustain and support the borough’s “critical economic assets” and key job sites. Commercial confidentiality was the reason given for the scant information offered up at the meeting. However, reports showed a chunk of the £2.25m would be clawed back through planning agreements.
