At last week’s first full council meeting of the new Isle of Wight council since the 6th May election, Conservative councillor for Newchurch, Havenstreet and Ashey, Cllr Clare Mosdell, put forward her nomination for Cllr Steve Hastings to be voted in as Leader of the council.
Several readers who were following our live reporting (catch up here) have asked for a full transcript of Cllr Mosdell’s speech. We are happy to oblige and share below. New leader of the Isle of Wight Council, Lora Peacey-Wilcox. A TIGHTLY contested fight to lead the Isle of Wight Council has ended with a new leader of the authority and a new ruling party. After the Island went to vote earlier this month, it was down to a meeting of the council yesterday (Thursday) to decide who would sit in the hot seat for the next four years. Former council and Conservative group leader, Dave Stewart, lost his seat in the election to new councillor Claire Critchison, of the Green party, by 240 votes. In the first meeting of the newly formed Isle of Wight Council Cllr Lora Peacey-Wilcox took the sought-after position by 20-18.
