Burnham and Highbridge Mayor presents four residents with Civic Awards Four residents from Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge were honoured for their outstanding service to the local community by being presented with Civic Awards by the town’s Mayor on Sunday (April 18th). A special outdoor ceremony was led by Mayor Cllr Mike Facey in Burnham’s Marine Cove gardens, with just a handful of people present to comply with Covid restrictions. Jan Bonus, Pauline Smith, Terry Cornelius and John Chinn received their awards from the Mayor and Deputy Mayor Cllr Andy Hodge for their service to the community. Each was invited to attend the Marine Cove ceremony at 15-minute intervals on Sunday afternoon and no audience was invited along to keep numbers to a minimum.

BURNHAM-ON-SEA RNLI has joined with its fellow lifeboat stations across the UK in paying tribute to the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip, who died last week at the age of 99. An RNLI statement reads: Everyone involved in the RNLI sends heartfelt condolences to our patron, Her Majesty The Queen, on the death of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh. The Duke of Edinburgh has accompanied Her Majesty on many RNLI occasions, and we thank him for his long-standing commitment to maritime services and a lifetime of support to Her Majesty. Other sections of the Burnham and Highbridge community have offered condolences and tributes upon P:rince Philip s death.

Burnham-On-Sea church bells rung 99 times in memory of Prince Philip Burnham-On-Sea’s St Andrew’s Church marked the death of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh on Saturday with 99 chimes of the church bell, once for each year of his life. Following Friday’s announcement of the passing of Prince Philip, Burnham’s St Andrew’s Church rang a half muffled tolling bell at 12 mid-day. A small gathering of residents turned out to listen as the church’s bell captain Roger Packer, pictured, who has been in the role for 60 years, led the ceremony with Isaac O’Shea,  pictured below. Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge Town Council has opened an online book of condolence for local people to pay their respects and post messages.
