A long-awaited children s home set to open in Greenwich offering crucial support to local teenagers in care.

Schools in south east London gear up for return of students

Covid testing at the University of Greenwich - PA Greenwich is doing everything in its power to prepare educational settings for March 8, and Covid testing will be a key component in the safe return of schools, colleges and universities. Greenwich Council said in a statement that meetings with headteachers, risk assessments and safety measures are underway, and that regular testing will be vital in the safe return of pupils and students. And colleges across south east London, as well as the University of Greenwich, have confirmed their support for the return of face-to-face teaching next week. Along with the now-standard safety and social distancing measures, testing facilities are currently being established at each site.

Greenwich Council call for urgent clarity on nurseries

Greenwich Council have written to Gavin Williamson over early years provision. Greenwich Council leaders have written to the Education Secretary demanding clarity over how early years settings should operate in lockdown, and have advised nurseries to revisit their risk assessments with consideration for the new variant. The Labour council have joined others urgently calling for a support package for workers and providers, and stand ready with other London leaders to help address these vital issues. Secondary and primary schools were closed to all but key workers and the vulnerable when Boris Johnson announced the third national lockdown on Monday, January 4, but early years settings have been advised to remain open to all children.
