UPCOMING work to improve two roads in Fordingbridge may not be enough to address safety issues for pedestrians, councillors fear. Action is to be taken on some key routes, with “patching work” scheduled for Salisbury Road and Salisbury Street. Hampshire County Councillor for Fordingbridge, Edward Heron, told Fordingbridge Town Council at a meeting this month that county officers had been out inspecting roads and pavements. He added: “They have programmed some patching work to be done in Salisbury Road. They have put Salisbury Street into the Operation Resilience resurfacing programme for the next financial year.” Cllr Heron said more patching work would be done in Whitsbury Road, which county officers “hoped to get done as soon as possible”.
PROPOSALS to turn high street units into three flats in Fordingbridge have sparked concerns about “over development” and a lack of parking. An application seeking a change of use for units 2 and 3 Roman Quay, High Street to create three new homes has been submitted to New Forest District Council by Tygwin Ltd. It was discussed by Fordingbridge Town Council on January 13. Councillor Alan Lewendon said the units had been a cafe and shop premises previously and that the cafe building would be divided in half to create two separate units of accommodation. He said they were “very small” and were “stand alone studio flats” but was concerned over the amount of light the lower property would get, which he felt would be “extremely limited”.
FORDINGBRIDGE councillors have urged caution over taking on land at the cemetery. Fordingbridge Town Council has been asked about taking on the title of land at Stuckton Road cemetery from New Forest District Council (NFDC). A meeting of the town council on January 6 was told the district council had presented a land transfer form to solicitors acting for the town council but no agreement could be found in the minutes or correspondence that the town council had agreed to take it on. The town council manage the land on behalf of the district council and the meeting heard there could be potential costs if it took the land over and there was need to extend it.
