Estd 1870 – CSPCA publish 150th anniversary commemorative book

mary@TheCork.ie The Cork Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, a non-profit animal welfare organisation is selling a 150th-anniversary commemorative book celebrating an extraordinary milestone in its rich history. It draws upon extensive archives preserved by the Society since 1870 recognising its pioneering founders, its generations of committed and passionate volunteer and staff members and documents the organisation’s aspirations, triumphs and tribulations up to the present day. CSPCA Cork Society Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Photo Joleen Cronin Ahead of the official formation of the Society, a first exploratory meeting was held on 16th September 1870, attended by Robert Scott, Henry Richardson, T M Corker, A McOstrich, Benjamin Haughton, Thomas Perrott, William Goulding and J C Newsom. Lots of events across Friday, Saturday, Sunday to mark the anniversary – involving Lord Mayor, Taoiseach and more. Programme of events for today, Friday (11 December 2020) A Covid-19 compliant ceremony, attended by the Lord Mayor of Cork, will be broadcast on the Cork City Council Facebook page at 10.30pm this evening to mark the centenary of the Burning of Cork. The webcast ceremony will begin at 10.30pm on https://www.facebook.com/corkcitycouncilofficial/, the time 100 years ago when calls in relation to the fires were first received by Cork City Fire Brigade.
