Councillors voted and debated on the final recommendations at a full council meeting on Tuesday, February 23. Later in the year, residents will see a 4.99 increase in council tax – compromising of 1.99 per cent being for all council services, and an additional three per cent ring-fenced for adult social care. This means a band D property will see a £53.76 spike – with the total bill being £1,131.17 for 2021/22. Speaking at the meeting, lead member of finance, councillor David Hilton (Con: Ascot & Sunninghill), said: “I’m confident residents will not begrudge the additional £1 a week they will pay to support our most vulnerable residents and to support our staff.”
KFC in Buckshaw Village Councillors have demanded more evidence about air quality close to a drive-through fast food outlet before deciding whether to approve to a new children’s nursery nearby. Chorley Council’s planning committee was considering a proposal to build a day care facility for up to 125 children on land off Barnes Wallis Way in Buckshaw Village – just yards from a KFC restaurant. The authority’s planning officers had initially recommended that the application – from Kids Planet Day Nurseries – should be approved. However, several committee members raised concerns about the potential impact on children’s health of playing in an area so close to a procession of vehicles using the neighbouring drive-through – citing an inquest in London which is currently considering whether the death of a nine-year-old girl was linked to air pollution.
