Leader of the Isle of Wight Conservative Party, cllr Steve Hastings, has pledged to work 'constructively' with the Isle of Wight Council's new administration.

After the Island went to vote earlier this month, it was down to a meeting of the council yesterday (Thursday) to decide who would sit in the hot seat for the next four years. Former council and Conservative group leader, Dave Stewart, lost his seat in the election to new councillor Claire Critchison, of the Green party, by 240 votes. The Isle of Wight Council has a new leader in Cllr Lora Peacey-Wilcox who has received more than 700 congratulatory messages since her election at last night’s (Wednesday) full council (read her profile).
Wining the leadership race against the Conservative’s Cllr Steve Hastings, by two votes (20 to 18) Cllr Peacey-Wilcox said the next step is to find out exactly where the council is with projects and each portfolio, with cabinet members asking some searching questions.
