Mayor plants 'Soldier Boy' rose bush as he opens new Veteran's Allotment

The new Veteran’s Allotment is located at Witton Park Allotments just off Buncer Lane . The allotment can be used by veterans and their families to grow vegetables and flowers, which can be either sold in the community. Members can also take the produce home themselves to supplement their diet as part of the 5 steps to health and well being .  In addition to this they are encouraged to learn new gardening skills or simply to sit and have a cup of tea and chat in peaceful surroundings.  The Mayor, Cllr Derek Hardman, planted a rambling rose, named ‘Soldier Boy’ to commemorate his visit on Saturday June 26. He was joined by Mayoress Colette Hardman on the day.
