Police were called to a beauty spot after people gathered to protest over work starting on a new housing development.
Ecology work to clear trees and vegetation has begun along the northern bank of the Royal Military Canal in Hythe in preparation for the divisive Princes Parade scheme.

When complete, it will include 150 new homes, a leisure centre, a hotel and green spaces along the coastal road.

Mass vaccine centre opens in Folkestone at former Debenhams store

The new mass vaccination centre in Folkestone is now open and has started delivering Covid-19 jabs to Kent residents.
It has opened in the former Debenhams store, in Sandgate Road, which has been transformed into a medical centre fit to administer thousands of vaccinations each week.

It is the first large-scale coronavirus vaccination centre in the county, although more are expected to open in the coming months. Vaccination pods can be seen set up inside the former department store, which is still fitted with signs pointing to handbags and menswear.

The large scale vaccine site will open in Folkestone on Tuesday and operate from 8am until 8pm to deliver thousands of vaccines seven days a week.

But the site at numbers 44-68 Sandgate Road has a long and interesting history as a department store and played an important role in the First World War.
Before it was a Debenhams, the site was another department store known as Bobby, which had other stores in east Kent.
In 1906, Frederick Bobby acquired C.J. Saunders drapers in Rendezvous Street, Folkestone, which proved a success and he soon outgrew the building.
