Closures? Farley Mount car parks discussion ongoing

Last month the Echo reported that car parks could be closed at the beauty spot near Winchester to ward off professional dog walkers. It was unclear whether these closures were decided, or would be consulted on before being actioned. Now it has emerged that the South Lynch Estate Office, which owns part of Farley Mount, the Forestry Commission and Hampshire County Council are meeting regularly to figure out a plan that all parties are in agreement with . George Rees of the South Lynch Estate Office said: We will be consulting with local parish councillors and local residents but a comprehensive plan that is going to keep everyone happy with long term benefits for the site is going to take a fair bit more time to get sorted.

Winchester: Farley Mount car parks could be closed

A letter seen by the Chronicle has revealed plans to reduce the number of parking spots at Farley Mount near Winchester. It states that some car parks will be closed in a trial because professional dog walkers are deterring residents from using the land. Previous landlords have, through their good intentions, allowed the opening up of numerous car parks at the site which have clearly, but unintentionally, made Farley Mount a destination venue for visitors from far and wide, says the letter, written by chairman of Hursley Parish Council, Cllr David Killeen. Virtual protest against Royaldown homes near Winchester postponed

The Save South Winchester campaign had originally planned to hold a socially distanced march around the site perimeter on Sunday January 24. It was then moved online but now has been put back to a date in February to coincide with the public consultation over the new Winchester Local Plan. Further details are yet to be released by campaign leaders Cllr David Killeen, chairman of Hursley Parish Council, and county councillor Jan Warwick.
