The multi-million pound investment plan from the Conservative administration to roll out a number of measures across Southampton came under scrutiny last week. Civic chiefs quizzed city council leader Cllr Daniel Fitzhenry over plans to invest £32.4m of public money over the next two years. It comes as the amended budget proposals are set to be approved by full council on Wednesday. As reported, the plans include free parking and a series of investments including  £600,000 to clean up roads, pavements and public spaces.

TRAFFIC levels have returned to normal in Southampton after a day of chaos caused by issues affecting Red Funnel Ferries. Drivers were hit by long delays in the Town Quay and Ocean Village area yesterday, with problems persisting until the early evening. Shipping congestion in the Channel began to have a knock-on effect in he Southampton area, delaying the docking of a Red Funnel ferry. Employees also had to contend with a medical emergency involving an elderly passenger who suffered a fall.
