A CONCERNED resident has criticised the design of an election candidate’s leaflet, calling it a “misrepresentation”. Maldon resident Thomas Kelly, 80, said there was a “deliberate misrepresentation of the facts” after he received a leaflet from Liberal Democrat election hopeful Colin Baldy. The leaflet for Mr Baldy, who is vying for the Maldon seat on Essex County Council, was titled ‘Cllr Colin Baldy’. Mr Kelly said he has nothing against the Liberal Democrat candidate, but the leaflet was misleading and neighbours he had spoken to were confused about whether Mr Baldy was a councillor in the first place. FUNDING has been found for repair work to footpaths at Yeadon s Engine Field Park after an approach to the area s three ward councillors. This area is an undiscovered gem of a park at one end of the popular footpath which links Yeadon and Guiseley via the old railway line , said Cllr Sandy Lay. Parts of the path network have been damaged and we were approached to see if funding was available for repairs. Luckily there was a pot of Covid 19 money to encourage people to exercise which was not spent. It would have been lost had we had not grabbed it for Yeadon .
BUDGET amendments have been put forward by Liberal Democrats to protect and improve services in Otley and Yeadon and the wider Leeds area. The proposals, which were put forward at Wednesday s Leeds City Council meeting, would include the protection of Yeadon Sailing and Activity Centre and would keep Ellar Ghyll tip open seven days a week. They would also provide free parking in Otley. Otley and Yeadon councillor Sandy Lay said: Because of Covid 19 things are difficult for local government at the moment. However we believe our proposals, which are cost neutral, would benefit everyone. In particular we are looking at a number of schemes to benefit the environment with investment in public transport and extension to local recycling. Locally we have found funding to reverse the decision to close for most of the week Ellar Ghyll waste transfer station and keep it as a seven day service .
