Calls were made for the HSE to come back before Birr Municipal District and provide information on the location of the proposed new primary care centre for Birr and its proximity to the town.
Cllr John Clendennen raised the issue at the March meeting of the MD where he pointed out that the full engagement at the meeting with the Health Service Executive (HSE) at the February meeting was “totally unacceptable”.
“If anything, it left us with nothing but concerns and worries about where this project was going and the delivery of it. According to one local councillor, an element of frustration is being felt within the local community in Kinnitty where people were being left dealing with cones and barriers since last June after works, under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme stalled due to Covid-19 restrictions.
Speaking at the recent monthly meeting of Birr Municipal District, Cllr John Clendennen raised the issue with council officials.
“We thought we had learnt from the first town and village renewal project. We seem to be making the same mistakes again where accesses are being blocked.

POLITICIANS have welcomed the allocation of €800,000 to communities in Offaly under the Town & Village Renewal scheme.
Six areas will receive €100,000 each - Pollough, Mucklagh, Cloneygowan, Daingean, Mount Bolus and Kilmalogue (Portarlington) while Ferbane has been allocated €200,000.
But annoyance has been expressed by people in Killeigh at the failure of an application to secure funding for the development of a new community centre in the village on the site of the old Macra hall.
“Killeigh missed out this year on this significant funding which would have allowed them to commence work this year despite having lodged an extensive application and being recommended by Offaly County Council,” said Martina Gorman, PRO of Killeigh Community Centre Development Association.

There have been fresh complaints from people living on the Laois Offaly border about boy racing in the Slieve Bloom Mountains.
On Saturday night, December 12, boy racers were heard driving at high speeds up and down Glendine East, one of the most remote valleys in the Slieve Blooms. It was like Mondello racetrack. The noise started at 8 pm and finished at 11 pm. There were several cars involved, driven by young men, going at very high speeds. The noise level was high, reverberating throughout the whole valley, which is several miles long, said the resident.
