Steps to avoid further flood sacks confusion

By • 11 Mar 2021 FLOOD FEARS: Questions have been asked how residents can get hold of community flood protection sacks bought for Middleton-in-Teesdale and Eggleston STEPS are being taken to avoid further confusion in the way flood protection sacks are distributed in a dale village. FloodSax – a type of sandless sandbag – were bought by Middleton-in-Teesdale and Newbiggin Parish Council last year to stop households flooding after previous incidents. Contributions were also made by Eggleston Parish Council. They have been stored at Middleton’s fire station and are deployed by fire and rescue staff as they see fit. But in January, a California Row resident removed all the FloodSax following a severe weather alert. Fire station staff had been under the assumption the resident was a member of the parish council.

Ideas sought for stone s new location - News - Teesdale Mercury

ON THE MOVE: The guide stone inside the entrance of Utass’ offices PEOPLE in Middleton-in-Teesdale are being asked for their views on where a guide stone, carved initially for the village’s heritage centre, should be placed. The massive stone is currently in the entrance of Utass’s offices, in Chapel Row but parish councillors want to put it somewhere in the village for all to enjoy. It was suggested during their January meeting it be placed near the Bainbridge Fountain. But Cllr Christine Gilbert said: “If we carry on putting things around the fountain, you will no longer be able to see the fountain. It is just a load of clutter around there. We could do with less, not more.”
