Plans for an outdoor swimming pool which could be built in New Brighton suffered a serious setback last night.
Cllr David Burgess-Joyce A Conservative councillor who suggested teachers should be fired if they did not go to school has been slated for his remarks. Responding to a social media post attacking teachers who stayed at home over coronavirus-related safety concerns yesterday, Wirral councillor David Burgess-Joyce said: Should do what Reagan did when the Air Traffic Controllers decided to strike. He sacked those who didn’t return to work. Had the desired result. Defending teachers, Bora Oktas, from the National Education Union (NEU), said: Wirral residents will be aware that this is not the first time that Cllr Burgess-Joyce has made ill-informed, intemperate and offensive comments on social media.

Cllr David Burgess-Joyce was suspended from the Tory group on Wirral Council following his remarks last year THE man who could be the next leader of the Wirral Conservatives has been slammed by a black Labour MP who he compared to the Ku Klux Klan. Cllr David Burgess-Joyce, a Tory councillor in Wirral, is beyond the pale , according to Tottenham MP David Lammy. Last year, Cllr Burgess-Joyce compared the now shadow justice secretary to the Ku Klux Klan – the American white supremacist group who violently target African Americans. He has since apologised unreservedly for his comments, for which he was suspended from the Conservative group on Wirral Council.
