Plans for Presteigne church to be decided by committee

St Andrew\ S Church Norton - google earth PLANS to breathe new life into a redundant church near Presteigne have been called-in to be decided by Powys County Council’s planning committee. Earlier this year Norton Community Trust submitted applications to turn the Grade II-listed St Andrew’s Church in Norton into a “community hub”. In 2020, following many years of declining attendance and an ongoing lack of funds for maintenance, Church in Wales declared the church redundant. The trust was set up to preserve the building for use by the community, and wants to remove the pews from nave and transepts, upgrade the heating system, relocate the font, and put in an accessible toilet and kitchen below the belfry.

Free asymptomatic drop-in Covid testing centre for Newtown

The centre will be set up for four weeks from June 7, at Park Street Day Centre. This pilot programme will help Powys Teaching Health Board and Powys County Council to understand more about the spread of coronavirus in the county, and to prevent future outbreaks. Stuart Bourne, director of public health for Powys Teaching Health Board, said: We know that one in three people can have coronavirus without displaying the classic symptoms of fever, new continuous cough and loss of or change to sense of smell or taste. So this programme will help us gather a very comprehensive picture of coronavirus in the Newtown area. The information we gather will help us to Keep Powys Safe, we hope it will support us all to further steps to the ease restrictions on our daily life.
