Motorway truck dodgers making Laois village dangerous

Trucks avoiding motorway tolls is a factor in Borris-in-Ossory becoming very very dangerous , according to a councillor who has called for action.
Cllr James Kelly called on Laois County Council to install parking bollards at the very busy Ballybrophy Road/Main Street Borris in Ossory R445 Junction in line with road traffic safety guidelines.
“I have been contacted on numerous occasions. It is a very very dangerous junction there. It is a busy junction for traffic with heavy goods vehicles avoiding the toll bridge,” he said.
He said traffic does not slow on the way into Borris-in-Ossory from the tennis club side.
County Councillors who represent the biggest area of Laois believe people in their district are being short-changed in terms of the money spent on roads compare.
Laois maisonettes for elderly ‘in appalling condition’

Some of the council small houses for older or single people in Laois are in appalling condition a councillor has claimed.
Cllr Conor Bergin said that doors of some council maisonettes have breezes blowing under them.
“I know some elderly people who are in maisonettes that the doors and windows are in appalling condition.
“They have not been replaced for 30 years and there are breezes coming in under them. I am not talking top BER ratings here, but that they could be replaced,” he said.
Cllr Bergin was referring to the council’s recent announcement that 160 Laois homes are to get a free assessment for full energy refits, as the first part of the Midlands Housing Retrofit Programme to upgrade council homes.
