North Scale Community Centre on Walney which was victim to vandalism installs CCTV to catch criminals

Security has been beefed up at a community centre on Walney following a spate of vandalism. North Scale Community Centre was the victim of spray paint graffiti and criminal damage back in January and volunteers involved with the centre have been hard at work trying to ramp up security at the site to avoid future issues. Councillor Des Barlow has worked with other committee members to bring six cameras to the area, which covers the community centre, a playground and a bowling green. “There are two warning signs up so people can see them coming in,” he said. Face mask rationing claim sparks political row in Dudley

A CLAIM staff working in a Covid test centre are only given one face mask has sparked an angry row between Dudley’s Conservative and Labour parties. Councillor Patrick Harley, leader of the council, and Labour’s Councillor Qadar Zada clashed  at Monday’s full council meeting after hearing cleaners at the Saltwells Education Development Centre were not being given replacement PPE. The shocking claim came in a question by Councillor Jackie Cowell who asked whether it was true staff were expected to wear face masks until they ‘fell to pieces’. Saying the centre was operating as a lateral flow test site and also prepared food parcels, she said: “Management have been challenged and have apparently said they can’t afford to supply masks every day.  It is totally unacceptable.”

Criticism of councillors for not attending health meetings

A MAJOR shake-up of a council health committee has been called for after it emerged councillors failed to attend its meetings.  The low attendance rate at the Dudley’s Health and Wellbeing board  – which helps coordinate work with the NHS, hospitals and GPs  – has triggered a call for change. But the board’s chairman, Councillor Nicolas Barlow, has stressed the authority’s Covid response plans haven’t been affected by the lack of numbers. Speaking at a recent meeting of the authority’s Overview and Scrutiny Management Board, Cllr David Tyler claimed high absenteeism had slowed efforts to improve health.
