Marion County woman charged with murder, attempted murder for shooting incident

A woman from Summit is jailed on murder and attempted murder charges following a shooting incident at her house late Tuesday night. Thirty-four-year-old Bridget Lynn Brown is being held in the Marion County Jail on a quarter of a million dollar bond. The victim of the shooting is identified as 24-year-old Rachel Hemphill of Summit. Marion County Sheriff Clinton Evans says when deputies arrived, they found Hemphill on the floor of the residence with a gunshot to the head. She was transported to Baxter Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. Evans says the incident happened at 251 Railroad Trail in Summit while a group of people were gathered at Brown’s house. During the investigation, Brown told law enforcement she was entering the house, but because the stairs were shaky, she attempted to brace herself with the hand she had a gun in and the trigger was pulled. Law enforcement have not said why Brown had the gun.
